Social and emotional mentoring for schools, academies and clubs

One to one mentoring for young people who are capable, but find pressure and setbacks hard to handle. Delivered in your setting or online.

The problem

Capable young people, struggling with the hard moments

Many young people do well on paper but struggle with setbacks, pressure, conflict and relationships. They used to pick these skills up informally, through time with adults outside the family. Much of that has gone, and schools and clubs are left managing the consequences.

What it is

Sustained one to one mentoring, usually weekly, over a term or a season. It's built on Bronfenbrenner's idea of proximal processes: regular time with an experienced adult that grows in complexity as the young person grows.

What it isn't

Counselling or therapy. Any clinical or safeguarding concern goes straight to your counsellor and designated safeguarding lead.

Who it's for

Built for settings where the pressure is real.

Private schools

For pupils who are achieving but carrying more than they show. Mentoring adds to the pastoral support you already have.

State schools

Focused on engagement, behaviour and relationships rather than grades. Pupil Premium may be a route to fund it for eligible pupils.

Academies and clubs

Football clubs, tennis and motorsport academies, music schools and other high performance programmes. For young people whose skills off the pitch or stage haven't caught up with their talent. This is development, not a fix for a problem.

How it works

From first call to end of block review.

1

Agree goals

A short call to agree goals and choose the students or players.

2

Brief staff

A staff briefing on the signs that suggest a referral.

3

Consent and baseline

Family consent and a baseline measure.

4

Weekly sessions

Weekly one to one sessions over a term or a season.

5

Report and review

A termly group report and an end of block review.

Reporting

Reporting and confidentiality

  • You receive attendance, agreed goals, short progress notes and group results.
  • What a young person says in sessions stays private, unless there's a safeguarding concern, which goes to your safeguarding lead.
  • For academies and clubs, nothing from mentoring feeds into selection or release decisions.
Measurement

Measuring what changes

  • Pre and post questionnaires on social and emotional skills and belonging.
  • Staff ratings alongside the questionnaires.
  • Results reported at group level.

Pricing

Pricing depends on the setting and the number of students. Pilot terms are available.
